a true story:

In 1982 Larry Walters attached 42 weather balloons to an ordinary lawnchair and floated up to 16,000 feet above the ground, thus achieving his boy-hood dream of flight. While in the sky, Mr. Walters was spotted by two stunned commercial airline pilots, who quickly alerted authorities before Larry could descend. Larry had brought with him a pellet gun to shoot down the balloons; miraculously, he survived a death-defying descent, crash landing in power lines.

Larry's flight captured the nation's imagination and he unintentionally soared to fame, appearing on radio and talk shows including the Letterman Show. But after the limelight faded, Larry's flight gradually became an urban legend.

Eleven years after his flight, Larry ended his life by hiking into the LA National Forest and shooting himself in the heart.

'The Man in the Flying Lawnchair' is the true-story of this urban legend. The film reveals the many layers beneath a seemingly ordinary man who dared to live his extra-ordinary dream.
